Club's success with both seniors and Junior Badminton Coaching courses - Wednesday 31st of March 2010Read More …
Otley Badminton Club have gone from strength to strength thanks to a grant from Sport England that has assisted the club in its growth from 21 members to 42 this year.
The Grant was for advertising, publicity and coaching, and has also been used to help launch a junior club on a Saturday morning, with a series of coaching sessions run by Yorkshire Badminton Association Coach Trevor Curtis. 21 children have taken part in a 10 week course, which was primarily aimed at a beginner and improver level.
Trevor &; Assistant coach James Dalby, who is a club member of Otley and about to do his level 2 coaching course, wound up the session by thanking the club members who had organised and helped them over the weeks with the admin, and in return the children showed their appreciation to Trevor and James in the traditional manner.
Before leaving the club last Saturday the children all recieved a monographed Sports Bottle provided by Badminton England who have also been very helpful in supporting the club's revival.
The club would like to thank Trevor (and James) for giving their time up, and it is hoped that the Junior Club &; the club in general will go on to greater success in the future.
The popularity of the initial sessions was such that a number of children had to be placed on a waiting list, so it is intended to repeat the course later in the year. Those who have already expressed an interest will be contacted directly by the club, but anyone else who is interested should use the contact details below.

An american Tournament was held on Monday 14th December 2009, and was very succesful, and well attended with 15 pairs taking part, a total of 30 people who all seemed to enjoy this, for some, competitive but fun atmosphere they encountered during the games. Unfortunately a cut off point had to be decided at 10 games, but the winners are: Tom Field 126 Points (Men's trophy) and Wendy Hill 99 Points (Ladies Trophy) thanks to all of those who took part, and a special thanks to Barry for organsing it. Twenty plus members then went on top the Wesbourne Spice and enjoyed a very nice Ruby Murray. Fuller details of the tournament are attached. Steve

Launch of Junior Club & Coaching - Tuesday 24th of November 2009Read More …
Otley Badminton Club are pleased to have secured a coach to run junior coaching sessions which will launch early in the New Year.
This follows the great interest shown last September when Brian Wallwork, national junior coach visited the club and ran two coaching sessions.
Those sessions were well supported and proved that there is interest in further coaching for junior players, so the club decided to try and secure the services of a coach, which they have now been successful in doing.
Trevor Curtis, Badminton England Affiliated coach will commence the club’s 8 week course for juniors aged 8-16 on Saturday Jan 9th, (9:30-10:45am) with further sessions on 16th , 23rd , 30th Jan, Feb 6th and then after half term with hopefully two or three more sessions in March.
The 8 sessions, which will cater for all ability levels will cost a total £15.00 and must be advance booked due to restrictions on numbers. Anyone interested should contact Steve Norfolk on 07860-242089 or on info@otleybadmintonclub.co.uk for further details.
One club members will be required per session to assist Trevor – please let Steve or david know if you ar able to volunteer.
