About Groundlings Theatre Company

Groundlings Theatre Company was set up in 2000, by local actor Richard Stride. We provide classes in drama, TV and Film, editing, dance and other related workshops, for students age 7-107.

All students are involved in productions through out the year. Our productions range from in-house to outdoor events, such as The Festival of Christmas at The Historical Dockyard.

Our activities include : Amateur Dramatics and Theatre.

Groundlings Theatre Company has recently won the bid to buy The Old Beneficial School in Portsea. This stunning historic grade II star listed building will be brought back to life providing a wonderful focal point for the area.

Three studios are available to hire set in this beautiful Georgian building. Situated close to Gunwharf Quays and Rail, Bus and Ferry terminals it is ideally located for users and audiences. There is car parking for users of the arts centre and a daytime café and evening restaurant for dinner theatre. Film and editing suite is also available. Special rates are available for regular users.

Room Facilities Price per Hour Mon - Fri and Day rate (9am - 5pm)
Studio One
Large Room with feature fire place and dance floor, movable mirrors. Also ideal for conferences and events
9m x 12m £17.50 per hour £75.00day rate

Studio Two
Studio space suitable for Drama, rehearsals.
9m x 10m £17.50 per hour £75.00 day rate

Theatre Space (Studio One and Two combined)
Versatile space, with Tech Room and dressing room facilities including shower
9m x 22m £22.50 per hour £100 day rate

TV Studio - also doubles as a rehearsal room and small dance studio
7m x 9m £15.00 per hour £70 day rate

Editing Room
Film Editing Room. (full use of editing system)
4m x 9m £8 per hour £40 day rate Size

Theatre Hire for Productions
Full Box Office service, advertising and publicity service, technical support, dressing rooms and shower facilities
9m x 22m £295 per day £1,495 per week

Prop Store
Prop store for hire.
