Northern Radio Moto Club
About Northern Radio Moto Club
Our club is based on having fun with 2 wheels, but on a small scale. We race radio controlled 1/5 scale on road and off road motorcycles, whether electric or nitro, at the only dedicated rc bike track in the world. We meet at our permanent outdoor tarmac circuit every fortnight during the winter and every 4 weeks or so during the summer. Our members come from all walks of life, from young to old and vary from novices to experts. No membership is necessary for the first few meetings but won't break the bank at only £20 annualy reducing to £15 if joining halfway through the year.
New Pilots
Please come along one Sunday and see what the all the fuss is about. ESPECIALLY if this is something you have always wanted to do, but never quite got round to it. A lot of our members are full size bikers, a few having raced as well, but as we get older the attraction of racing these models becomes obvious - it doesn't hurt when you crash! It's not that expensive either. And we can practice powerslides and wheelies all day long.
What we race
Mostly 1/5 scale on road motoGP style bikes, but also motocross style offroaders as supermotards There are now quite a few kits available to build, all of them have a top spec and include; adjustable front and rear suspension, chain drive, front and rear brakes, some models with discs front and rear, treaded and slick tyres in different compounds to suit prevailing weather conditions (yes, we race in the rain too!). Motive power can be electric motor, 2 stroke engine or 4 stroke, depending on model and racing class.
What's it like?
Imagine - it's near the end of the race, your friend is ahead by 3metres as you come out of the last corner before the back straight. Eager to pass before the end of the lap you get on the power a little too early mid corner, the back starts to come round and you enter the straight sideways, hitting full throttle a moment later as the bike straightens out. Then you see your braking marker and hit full brakes. But you were a little late and keep brake pressure hard on as you slow into the corner, making the bike sway side to side as the rear fights for grip. Then leant over at maximum lean angle and quickly back up and gun the throttle sharpish before the next corner. This has the front wheel lofting skywards but you were ready for it so no problem. Almost on him now. Just one more corner before the chequered flag. You stuff it up the inside under hard braking, forcing your friend to go around the outside and you both exit the corner at the same time and wheelie across the line together! No, not MotoGP, 1/5 scale rc bike racing! Join our club now!

As there is no club day in September, the next racing at Skipton is 3 October. But we will make up for it after that with fortnightly racing until the 2011 season starts. See you then. Bring all bikes, off roaders and sidecars as usual.
