About Ampthill Town Cricket Club

Our Chairman Mike Thomas first coined the phase, and now not many members don't believe that they belong to "The Finest Club In The World"
We welcome new members who wish to play for us or just support us as we try to play our lovely summer game.
We run two elevens in the Hertfordshire Cricket League on Saturdays along with a 3rd XI & 4th XI in the Millman, and three in the Bedfordshire League on Sundays.
We also enter the competitions run by the East Beds Shield. In 2006 we won the East Beds Senior Shield & in 2008 the Heritage Cup. In 2009 we lost in the final of the Heritage Cup & East Beds Senior Shield.
We have two Under 10 sides, two under 12, two under 14 and a Under 16 side all taking part in the Bedfordshire Youth League.

A body which we fully support for the good of Bedfordshire cricket.
Our main ground Ampthill Park, is lovely and our bar well stocked. From 2009 we have made a second home on Marston Playing Fields
We have Clubmark and are a Bedfordshire Cricket Board Focus Club
We hosted our first Minor Counties Fixture in 2006. With Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Cheshire & Oxfordshire having visited the Park.
On the 25th April 2010 Herefordshire will visit the Park to take on Bedfordshire in a 50 overs a side fixture

MARCH NEWSLETTER

It will not be long before we are playing our lovely summer game; the ground is being brought round thanks to Chris Sonnenstein &; his team.

On the playing side nets are under way on Thursday nights at Marston Vale. A recent blow saw the overseas player we had lined up pull out due to commitments “Down Under”. Simon Morrall &; Dan Nichols are working hard to sort out a replacement.  

Malta Revisited

Andy Passman fine band of men visit Malta over the weekend of Saturday/Sunday 27th/28th March. I understand that top class accommodation has been lined up for our tourists

 

Celebrity Dinner (Friday 21st May 2010)

This is our major fund raiser and we do need your support for the visit of former football referee Graham Poll to Parkside Hall. Chris Degnan is once again in charge of sales, tickets cost £30 each. If you can support us please contact Deggy on cdegnan@mitre.com 07720 550 298

 

Fantasy League

Graeme Presswell has released details of the Ampthill Town CC Fantasy League via e-mail &; on our website. Please contact myself on 01525 841836 or Graeme on 07946863262 if you require a hard copy of the entry forms and rules. We hope this will be a good fund raiser for us in 2010.

 

World Cup Sweepstake

I have only six sides left at £5 each for our World Cup sweepstake. Please send me your money without delay to get a team in the draw.

 

Rugby Match

The brave boys of the Cricket Club earned a 24 all draw against the egg chasers of the Rugby Club at Dillingham Park on Friday 12th February.

Thanks to Duncan Everitt for organizing our side and those who braved the cold to support our side.

                          

Nets

Senior nets continue on Thursday nights at Marston Vale Middle School on the 18th &; between 8 &; 10pm. After that they move outside on Tuesday evenings. Please support your Captains &; get practicing for the 2010 campaign.

 

 

 

 

Youth Registration (Thursday 8th April)

This very important evening for the Club is on Thursday 8th April, would all youth members please attend to register for the club. It is also a chance for the Managers  &; Coaches to inform you of their plans for 2010. We will be running four elevens on Saturdays &; Sundays so there will be chances for lots of our young members to play senior cricket. If you require more details please contact Graeme Presswell on 07946863262. 

 

Players Meeting &; Social (Friday 9th April)

Details to be confirmed but the players will hold a meeting followed by a social on Friday 9th April; hopefully this will be a chance to meet our new overseas player

 

Pre-Season Dinner (Friday 16th April)

Our traditional Pre-Season Dinner is at the pavilion on Friday 16th April (7 for 7.30pm), tickets are £18 each and are available from myself. We look forward to you joining us.

 

Beds Cricket Board Golf Day at the Bedford Golf Club, Great Denham Golf Village (Friday 23rd April) 

Duncan Everitt has already pulled together one side to represent our Club, but there is nothing to stop you putting together a side to also represent the Club.

The prize the BCB Cricket Club challenge for the ‘Top Golf Club in Bedfordshire’

Teams of 3-4 (2 of 4 to score, ¾ handicaps, Stableford Competition). Cost £35 per person to include golf, coffee/bacon roll, dinner and Geoff Swain Trick Shot Master class

Raffle – Longest Drive, nearest pin competition and BCB Auction. Also you could play alongside England legend – Derek Underwood

 

Band Night &; Real Ale Weekend (starting Friday 30th April)

We are holding a Real Ale weekend over the first May Bank holiday, starting off with an evening with the band 'Prop Idle' on Friday 30th April. ‘Prop Idle' invite guest vocalists if you fancy singing to us you need to contact David Thomas (david.thomas2@care4free.net) ASAP so you can join 'Prop Idle' for a practice or two.

If you know of anyone who is a little reticent in putting their own names forward for this but is known to have a vocal talent, any (sensible) nominations would be welcome to David as well.

We plan to have 6 real ales on tap over the weekend, so we are going to have to work hard to clear them all up, come on together we can do it. 

 

Wine Tasting (Friday 14th May)

This year’s first Bill &; Sally Silcock’ wine tasting is on Friday 14th May, tickets remain at £12.50 each and are available from myself

 

Peter Baxter to speak at Bedfordshire CCC dinner

I have once again taken a table at the Bedfordshire CCC Annual Dinner at Flitwick Cricket Club on Friday 26th March (7.30pm for 8pm)

Their guest speaker is Peter Baxter (the former producer of Test Match Special)

Tickets for this mixed Dinner cost £30 each. If you wish to attend please contact me

 

County Cricket up the Park

Herefordshire will be visiting the Park on Sunday 25th April; your support on the day would be most welcome. If you wish a meal in the Marquee with a few glasses of wine the cost is £20 each (please contact myself if you are interested)

 

As I try many real types of ale, I remain sure that “The Umpire Is Always Right”
