The Guesthouse Storytellers
About The Guesthouse Storytellers
We are a performance storytelling club with a core group of trained storytellers. Audience participation is welcomed and we operate an open floor system, where members of the audience can put their name into a hat to tell a story from memory of ten minutes or less. We have visiting professional storytellers three times a year. Most of our events are suitable for 12 years to adult. For more information or to register for any course, please email umi@umisinha.com or ring 01273 611490.
We are currently in the process of constructing a GuestHouse website.
Our main activity is Storytelling.

Latest News For The Guesthouse Storytellers
Update on past and future events - Sunday 1st of August 2010Read More …
News from last season: We had a very busy year last year, with Hugh Lupton as our first special event, attended by over 120 people. This was followed by the gifted young storyteller Rachel Rose Reid in April, closely followed by the Copper family with tales and songs of Sussex. Both events were attended by between 60 and 70 people. We also had a very enjoyable storytelling workshop with Sef Townsend, which was full, and two True Stories projects at the end of which a total of 15 storytellers told entertaining and moving stories from their own lives. Thanks to the East Sussex Arts Partnership for funding us and to you all for your support. We hope to see you again in the coming season.
Next season: Our next visiting professional storytellers in December will be the fabulous Michael and Wendy Dacre who, in the tradition of the troubadours, travel the country with their stories, songs and shadow puppets. They will be telling a wild and fantastic tale based on a surreal tenth century Irish myth, ‘The Voyage of Maelduin’. In between will be our usual themed evenings and we will be sending out a poster with all the details soon. We are always looking for new tellers and listeners, so please spread the word.
Your input: After our exciting events last year we are hoping to continue with new ventures. One suggestion is to set up a regular coaching session for people interested in practicing or getting coaching on their stories. Another is to hold informal True Stories evenings in the café at the Hillcrest where people can spend an evening eating and drinking with friends while being entertained by true stories. If you are interested in being involved or in supporting either of these ideas, please email me at: umi@umisinha.com . We need listeners as well as tellers, so it would be good to know of anyone is interested in coming to listen too.
Latest Events For The Guesthouse Storytellers
Upcoming events in the Autumn - Tuesday 14th of September 2010Read More …
We are currently taking our summer break. The club will continue to meet on the second Tuesday of each month from September - details will be put up in advance of each session.
Our first event on September 14th is with visiting storyteller Raphael Rodan with: When Abel Met Cain: a storytelling journey into our brother shadow and beyond. This is an evening exploring the darker side of the human psyche, from the comic to the tragic and from despair to redemption.
Raphael is an inspired storyteller with a special interest in the healing power of stories. He has worked with mixed groups of Arab and Jewish teenagers to explore their experience of the Middle-East conflict through improvised performance.
