The Barnstaple Tai Chi Club has been active since the mid 80s, and is run by Frank Adam and Julie Parker. Both have many years experience and have studied with various instructors including, through the Tai Chi Alliance, Christopher Pei, a pioneering Tai Chi master who is known to hundreds of students in the UK and around the world. Tai Chi is one of the oldest martial arts to come out of the East and the club teaches the Traditional Long Yang Tai Chi form. This comprises three linked sets totalling 120 postures or frames performed in slow motion with each frame representing a martial application. Regular practice will build up strength, improve both breathing and relaxation and is a total system for toning the body and calming the mind. The club welcomes new members to its classes at the Church Hall, South Street, Newport, and charges £4.00 a session. We are a "not for profit" club.
